Research
Parallel to over 30 years’ experience in teaching, research and development activities have been continuously expanded at the University. Research and development represent a major contribution by the University to the transfer of knowledge into enterprises in the region. Enterprises, University and students all profit equally from this development. Through co-operation in the shape of practical placements or final theses, application-oriented solutions are developed for enterprises. This at the same time complements the University’s practice-based teaching.
Research and development work takes place in a large number of institutes at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences through the joining of forces of various university lecturers and their laboratories. With the Wind Energy Research and Co-ordination Unit, there is a scientific institution which is responsible for tasks both concerning regional co-ordination as well as in interdisciplinary research in the field of wind energy. The MarTech Virtual Institute is a co-operation project led by the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) in which technologies for autonomous and remote-controlled underwater vehicles are being developed. The Technology Transfer Centre at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences (ttz) unites institutes headed by university lecturers in which, amongst others, a large number of EU projects with other co-operation partners are undertaken.

Vice-Rector Professor Dr. Peter Ritzenhoff is in charge of Research and Transfer at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

In order to give more support to research and subsequent knowledge transfer, the Research and Transfer Unit was set up at the University. It has two core tasks. Internally, it assists the University’s lecturers in their research acquisition activities. The ongoing monitoring of funding opportunities for research, administrative help in research project applications as well as support in the implementation of projects are some of its tasks. Externally, the Research and Transfer Unit serves as an interface between the regional economy and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. It is a contact point through which regional enterprises can access the innovative potential of the University.
