The institute has worked as a market-oriented service provider in the field of research and development for food industry since 1988. The complex activities of the “Bremerhavener Institute for Food Technology and Bioprocess Engineering / European Institute of Baking Technology” are closed linked to the education at the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven and offer students excellent development perspectives.
The Institute engages in the innovative fields of food technology and food biotechnology as well as food process engineering. The focus is placed, among others, on areas of cereal technology, natural substances or aspects of microwave technology or drying technology. Moreover, innovative approaches of cooling, freezing and defrosting in furnace and air-conditioning technology are developed. Further research and development areas are high pressure extraction, fermentation and emulsification and homogenization. The BILB plays also an active role in the field of the market orientedfood industry. The central objective are to promote, distribute and establish new products and processes in cooperation with companies in the food industry. Through the cooperation with regional and national partners in different sectors synergy effects are created: The cooperation invigorates the economy, strengths the competence and innovation power of the institute and fosters particularly the education and competence of the students. The institute has been awarded numerously. More than 200 degree’s thesis projects in cooperation with companies in the food industry and its suppliers and a number of internships and cooperative projects show the success of activities of the institute.
