Applications of informatics can be found in virtually all areas of modern life. Informatics contributes significantly to the rapid - sometimes even excessive - development of our society and its technologies. Therefore, the benefits of this discipline have to be constantly measured and carefully considered so that the development of this discipline can be fostered. Due to the dynamics of the information society, the demand for competent it specialists, who can design and develop forward-looking information technology solutions, is increasing.
The study course informatics at the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven qualifies the students with profound knowledge to meet the challenges caused by technological and social changes and to deal with applications of computer science in a critical way. On the basis of a comprehensive education which deals with all relevant topics of information technology, mathematics and business administration as well as key qualifications, the students learn sound knowledge of programming as well as engineering approach. Basic methods are taught both in theory and through practical experiences in small groups.
In the internship semester, the students gain the first insight into their future professions. Therefore they can deepen their knowledge in information technology or set focus in IT System Integration. Besides that, they can collect their own project experiences in a two-semester project with real-life tasks.
Under the supervision of a university lecturer, the students work independently on the planning and implementation of a comprehensive project work in a small group. The broad network of laboratories provides the best conditions to experience and steer processes on site under practical conditions. In the teaching and project work, the cooperation with local and regional companies is imbedded and the exciting research focuses of different lecturers are also involved. In addition, international aspects of information technology are integrated in the study, which can be realized through the semester abroad.
The graduates of informatics have, therefore, all the know-how that they need to gain a foothold in the IT sector successfully. Fields of application are various, extending from software development to hardware development, from system administration and maintenance to sales and support of hardware and software as well as activities in the training sector. Those who are willing to improve the level of their academic qualification have the opportunity to continue their study in the Master’s programme Applied Computer Sciences.
