Cruise Tourism Management is a business degree programme focussing on the tourism and cruise sector. Thus our graduates are prepared for commercial, planning and managerial positions in this this sector. Exemplary functions are product management, marketing, distribution, purchasing and personnel.
Sectors and employers
Potential employers are cruise shipping companies, cruise operators, cruise terminals, cruise handling and port agents as well as their suppliers and partners. Tasks for which our graduates are suitably qualified are mostly land-based. Few commercial staff are needed on the cruise ships themselves, although this is starting to change on the new mega liners. However, we recommend all our students to spend some time on board ship either during their internship or after the final examinations in order to gain some product knowledge and practical experience.
Hotel firms, tour operators, travel agency chains, destination management companies, specialised consulting firms, associations and public institutions in the tourism sector are also potential employers. Thanks to the breath of CTM, the different languages and the practice orientation, graduates are also in a position to pursue a profession in other areas of the leisure industry and related service sectors.
Our interns and graduates have been hired by: Aida Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Cunard Line, Seabourn Cruise Line, Saga Shipping, Sea Cloud Cruising, Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, A-Rosa River Cruises, Arkona Reisen, Deilmann Shipping, Hurtigruten, Hansa Cruises, Phoenix Reisen, Transocean Tours, Viking River Cruises, TUI Cruises, TUI Deutschland, TUI Hellas, TUI España, Thomas Cook, Kuoni, e-hoi, Opodo, Sartori & Berger, VIP Hanse Touring, SeaDays, Logemann Yachting, Columbus Cruise Center Bremerhaven, BIS Bremerhaven Touristik, Red Cross Travel Service, Wolters Reisen, Maritim Hotel, Hilton, Vilazzo Villas & Hotels, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, Siemens, Comdirect Bank, McKinsey & Co., KPMG, Booz & Company, Schenker China, Maersk, Shell, Aldi, and many, many more.
Every year, many of our graduates decide to continue their studies at Master's level. Given their English language skills and their international orientation, we encourage them to apply to universities abroad, especially in the UK where Master degrees have a long tradition. In the UK, most Master programmes are only one year long. This matches perfectly our 4-year CTM programme because the European higher education framework demands a minimum of 5 years of study before a Master's degree can be obtained.
So far, our graduates have completed post-graduate degrees, are currently enrolled, or have been accepted at: London School of Economics, Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of London, University of Edinburgh, University of St. Andrews, University of Bath, University of Cardiff, University of Brighton, University of Lancaster, University of Surrey, Heriot-Watt University Edinburgh, Edinburgh Napier University, University of Northumbria, University of Bradford, Bournemouth University, Oxford Brookes University, Southamton Solent University and various others.
