Internship abroad (SMP)

Erasmus+ provides students and graduates of the Hochschule Bremerhaven - University of Applied Sciences the possibility to complete an internship at a host institution based in one of the Erasmus+ programme countries (excluding Germany and EU-institutions, institutions which administrate EU-programmes as well as diplomatic missions from the student´s home countries).

This programme enables students and graduates to gain work experience in an international environment. Moreover, they get the possibility to enhance their key skills such as communication and cooperation skills, openness and knowledge about other cultures and markets.

Students and graduates can be funded for a voluntary or a compulsory internship abroad lasting between two and twelve months.

The programme provides Students the following benefits:

  • Support in preparation of the stay abroad (cultural, linguistic, organisational)
  • EU internship contract (learning agreement) between the university, the company and the student/graduate
  • ongoing support during the internship through a contact person at the university and the company
  • academic recognition of the internship as agreed on in the learning agreement
  • financial support in terms of Erasmus+ funding


Eligibility criteria for an Erasmus+ internship abroad:

  • degree student at Hochschule Bremerhaven - University of Applied Sciences (enrolled and registered in a programme which, after successful completion, will be completed with a Bachelor or Master degree issued by Hochschule Bremerhaven)
  • the home university must hold a valid Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE)
  • internship duration between 2 and 12 consecutive months
  • a mandatory language test (OLS) must be carried out before and after the mobility period for the following languages: Czech, Danish, Dutch English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish


Eligibility criteria for an Erasmus+ internship abroad for recent graduates:

  • the application must be submitted before taking the last exam
  • the internship must be completed within 12 month after graduation
  • duration of the internship: at least 2 months
  • you have not received more than ten months of Erasmus+ funding during your latest study cycle (Each student can get a maximum of twelve months of Erasmus+ funding per study cycle. The internship abroad for recent graduates counts towards the previous study cycle. Example: If a student received Erasmus+ funding for eight months during the bachelor studies, the student can receive Erasmus+ funding for maximum four more months.)
  • a mandatory language test (OLS) must be carried out before and after the mobility period for the following languages: Czech, Danish, Dutch English, French, German, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish


Application deadlines:
The complete application must be submitted latest four weeks before the start of the internship. The grants are awarded in the order in which applications are received.
