Advantages for scholarship holders

National Scholarship Programme (Deutschlandstipendium) provides support to students at the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven who show excellent academic achievements and also engage in voluntary activities. The recipients are awarded with 300 euros per month. The scholarship does not count toward BAföG and does not need to be repaid. The programme is financed by regional companies, institutions, foundations as well as private individuals and the Federal Ministry for Education and Research with equal shares.  

Additional to the financial support, the scholarship holders are also accompanied by the regional sponsors. Sponsors and scholarship holders meet together regularly for events, which are organized by the university together with the scholarship holders. Personal contact between the sponsors and the scholarship holders is also appreciated. 

Who can apply?

For the winter semester, anyone can apply who

  • are enrolled at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences for the coming winter semester and applicants who will begin their studies here for the coming winter semester
  • are within the standard period of study of their degree programme for the coming winter semester

For the summer semester, anyone can apply who

  • will start their studies at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in the coming summer semester.

Experience has shown that at least a grade point average of 2.0 is required to become a scholarship holder in the Germany Scholarship programme. Voluntary commitment can contribute up to 47 percent to the evaluation of the candidates.

Evaluation criteria

When deciding on the award of the scholarships, particular attention is paid to previous school or study achievements. For first-year students, the average grade of the university entrance qualification is decisive; for advanced students, the average grade of the previous academic achievements in the subject as of the last completed winter semester is decisive.

Special successes, awards and prizes, a previous professional activity and internships, extracurricular or extra-curricular activities, as well as special personal or family circumstances can improve the chances of an application. The weighting of the criteria is available in the download area.

German scholarships are awarded in accordance with the statutes for the awarding of scholarships at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences as well as the federal statutes and federal regulations.

For advanced Bachelor students

  • Proof of acadamic achievements to date

For Master students:

  • Certividate of a first university degree
  • Proof of academic achievements to date

Evidence of further involvement:

  • Special achievements, awards and prizes, previous professional activity and internships: Proof of the named commitment, including dates / periods of service
  • Extracurricular and extra-curricular activities: evidence of the named activities, including dates / periods of service provision and function
  • Special personal and family circumstances: If possible, external and meaningful evidence of the special personal and family circumstances 


The application period from 1 July to 15 August at 16.00 local time and from 1 January to 15 February at 16.00 local time.

The submitted documents will be processed by the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences for the purpose of selection for a Germany scholarship. After completion of the application procedure, the documents will be deleted.

Applications that are not submitted in due time and form cannot be considered in the selection process.
