Tourism and management - research on the pulse of practice
The Tourism and Management research cluster combines strategic issues from the international tourism industry - in particular cruise tourism - with practical management research. The focus is on current topics such as corporate sustainability, climate change, skills shortages and digitalization. The research impetus comes primarily from business practice, with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. Close cooperation with regional partners results in solution-oriented findings for key business challenges.
Öko-Glow - Companies as drivers of the socio-ecological transformation
Changing consumption and behaviour patterns in the tourism sector plays a key role in achieving climate targets. Studies show that social norms have a significant influence on environmentally relevant behaviour. This is why we are investigating whether tourism providers can influence the environmental behaviour of guests through communication.

Background and goals
The objective of the project is to change consumption and behaviour patterns of tourists towards more sustainable holidays with a lower carbon footprint. Previous solutions have primarily focussed on technology-induced efficiency increases in tourism.
Focusing instead on social norms in terms of CO2 reduction in tourism, which are exemplified by companies in the form of environmental management practices and communication strategies, is a key aspect of this project. Above all, the economic efficiency of the measures induced by the companies should also be in the focus by quantifying the effect on the service quality perceived by tourists and the overall satisfaction of customers with their stay.
