Increasing the proportion of women among teachers and students in STEM subjects

Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences can be pleased about its place in the top group in this year's CEWS university ranking according to equality aspects. According to the ranking, the number of female students in STEM subjects is above the national average. When it comes to filling academic positions and professorships, the university occupies a place in ranking group 3 with 6 out of 8 possible points. The CEWS university ranking of GESIS - Leibniz Institute for Social Research has been providing a clear preparation of data on equality at the various qualification levels at universities in Germany for 20 years. It thus complements other quality assurance instruments such as competitions, evaluations and certifications.

Increasing the proportion of women in subjects in which they are underrepresented is an essential goal of gender equality work at universities. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences has already been involved in this area for many years with various measures. "The results of the ranking show that the efforts of all those involved in gender equality work at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences are showing success. Although we are not yet perfect in all areas, we have already improved in comparison to the 2021 ranking," says Prof. Dr. Dr. Alexis Papathanassis, Rector of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
