Honoured! The new brand identity of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences receives Corporate Design Award

"New Horizons" convinces expert jury

Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, together with the Hamburg branding agency EIGA, introduced a new, modern brand design last year. This has now been honoured by a jury with the Corporate Design Award in the "Corporate Design Redesign" category. This is the second time the university's brand identity has been honoured with a prestigious design award after the Red Dot Award 2023.

"This is the second prestigious award our new corporate design has received and we are as surprised as we are delighted.  Our motto "New Horizons" has evolved through team collaboration with EIGA and this award proves that it is indeed always worth striving for new horizons.  We are a university that promotes the individual strengths of its members and aims to ensure progress in the region and beyond. My thanks and congratulations go to EIGA for this joint success," says Prof Dr Dr Alexis Papathanassis, Rector of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

For more than three decades, the Corporate Design Award has honoured launch and relaunch projects as well as corporate design elements. All work that significantly establishes, supports and influences the identity of a brand can be submitted in these categories. The jury is made up of experts who deal with brand development and brand management on a daily basis.The evaluation criteria include creativity, good cross-media utilisation options and credibility. It is also important that the design matches the identity of the brand. 

"Developing an educational brand first of all means taking a clear and, above all, credible position. In the process with Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, the active participation and genuine enthusiasm of everyone involved made it possible to formulate this position together. This also led to a very special result in the visual design of the brand," says Henning Otto, CEO of EIGA Strategic Brand Design.

The agency chose the "horizon" as the leitmotif - in keeping with the maritime profile of the university by the sea.The overall concept convinced the jury. In its assessment, it emphasised the modern look, the high level of recognisability and the simple but not boring design, among other things.

The university initiated a comprehensive mission statement process back in 2020. Building on this, it continued the identity process in 2021, still under the conditions of the pandemic, with the support of the Hamburg branding agency EIGA. As part of this, a new brand strategy was developed and presented in a modern brand design with a new logo. The new brand was launched in 2022. 

"The EIGA team integrated seamlessly into an already ongoing mission statement process and organised our extensive results in a comprehensible way. We are delighted with the resulting design and the diverse design options. I am delighted that our brand identity has been honoured with an award for the second time and has not only impressed us, but also design experts," says Tatjana Lovre, Head of Marketing at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
