Indian Holidays in November

Diwali festival

Diwali is a Hindu festival for the goddess of luck, Lakshmi, and the victory of good over evil. The festival takes place in November, at the end of the rainy season, and lasts for five days.

Traditionally, people in India light small oil lamps, called dipas, and float them on rivers. This is how the festival got its name Diwali, which means sea of lights.

During the celebration, people play music, dance, and share traditional food. In addition, many stories about Hindu gods are told and gifts and sweets are distributed.

Guru Nanak Jayanti

Guru Nanak Jayanti is the celebration of the birthday of Guru Nanak, who was the first Guru of the Sikhism religion. It is a holiday of Sikhism and a bank holiday in India.

Review: German Cooking Night

On Monday, 25 Oktober, our first Culture Night, the German Cookong Night, took place. The LEI-Team (many thanks at this point) organized a virtual get-together where the participants cooked an easy German dish together via livestream on BigBlueButton. It was a fun evening and everybody enjoyed spending some time together and of course the delicious meal.
