The mission statement describes Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in the future. The University implemented a reorganisation process and the mission statement reflects its goals. Achieving this target requires special effort from all members of the University. It is strongly characterised by its focus on engineering and economics.

All activities at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences are aimed at the training and the education of students.

The innovative teaching qualifies students for their later professions and helps them gain knowledge and skills.

Future-oriented courses emphasise the uniqueness and independence of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. Teaching is subjected to a constant process of qualitative advancement.

The demands on course contents are defined according to the background of the entire community, emphasising especially on the labour market. The University plans courses on a long-term basis and therefore will not act upon short-term demands

The focus on engineering and economics forms the basis. The teaching of key qualifications and increasing the awareness for environmental and social responsibility are essential components.

Apart from the tried and tested German Diploma, the University also offers Bachelor and Master qualifications.

The University aims for a modular structure in all courses, which allows the students a more personal organisation of their studies.

Other features of the University’s internationalisation are its worldwide co-operation with other universities realised through personal contact between members of the universities as well as the mutual recognition of course achievements.

Co-operation agreements with other universities in the area allow for a further extension of the existing course offer.

The teaching staff is committed to the ongoing task of utilizing scientific developments for the University programs.

They are involved in research and development. The Technology Transfer Centre at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences creates the framework for innovation.

The University supports women, especially in technical disciplines. With a higher percentage of women - also in high-level positions in science and administration – it ensures a better balance of perspectives, values, and standards for the University.

The teaching staff regards the students’ demand for education and training as a core challenge. They ensure suitable course contents, which are continuously adjusted to technical and economic advancement.

The technical and administrative staff also directs their activities to the teaching process. Administrative procedures are adapted to teaching requirements - closely intertwined and efficient.

Based on jointly defined procedures, all tasks are carried out comprehensively, achieving high-quality results. Personal responsibility is expected from both, staff and student body.

The University is committed to transparency. An open culture of information and communication is nurtured within the areas of teaching and administration as well as between them.

A regular reflection ensures up to date course contents. The teaching staff takes advantage of further training opportunities in science and practice.

The Technology Transfer Centre at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences supports the research and development activities of the University’s teaching personnel. Its institutes are important centres of competence.

University and Technology Transfer Centre co-operate in research and development activities with other institutions located in the region.

Research and development work is primarily done for and with the business community, focusing on Bremerhaven and the surrounding region.

Teaching staff involve other employees and students in research and development activities.

Interaction between teachings and R & D lead to synergies, which contribute essentially to quality assurance in the field of teaching.
