Early practical networking for students

University

Fair for students of social work

The Social Work degree programme at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is characterised by very close links with practice. From the very first semester, students familiarise themselves with work in various fields of activity. In order to network them with potential employers, a fair was recently held for the second time with 30 regional internships. "At the internship fair, the cooperation organisations and students have the opportunity to meet and get to know each other in person. It was great to see that students and institutions came together to work on a project or that students were successful in their search for an internship,’ says Jana Dierks, Practice Coordinator for the Social Work degree programme.

In the practical placements, students have the opportunity to carry out a project in the second and third semesters or complete a longer internship in the fifth, sixth and seventh semesters. "This is a great benefit for everyone involved, as students can gain their own experience of working with social work clients at an early stage under professional guidance and get to know potential employers. In turn, they may be able to attract future employees by giving them the opportunity to get to know the work there and try us out,’ says Pål Onno, student mentor for social work.

The application phase for the winter semester 2024/25 is currently underway. Prospective students can apply for the admission-restricted degree programmes Social Work, Physician Assistant and Digital Media Production via the portal www.hochschulstart.de until 15 July. For degree programmes with open admissions, applications can be submitted until 15 August via the university's own application portal ecampus.hs-bremerhaven.
