"Remember, you represent us in the world"

"Dear graduates, another chapter of your life ends and a new chapter begins!" With these words, University Rector Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Alexis Papathanassis introduced his speech to those who have made it: 150 students have successfully completed their Bachelor's or Master's degree at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in the summer semester that is coming to an end. Many of them celebrated this with their families, fellow students and professors and toasted their success in the festively decorated event hall and on the campus grounds. The university rector encouraged them to always rely on the professional and social skills they had acquired during their studies and to apply them in the next stage of their lives. "Openness, commitment, dedication, critical thinking and self-discipline were decisions that have become your skills. These skills will help you to continue to make good decisions and bring you success in all areas of life if you use them." This is more important than ever in the face of rising nationalism, racism and populism in Europe and the world. "As you leave this university community, please remember that you represent us in the world and that we will always be and remain proud of you. It is you who maintain our optimism and confidence in times like these."

The graduates also received congratulations from their deans, Prof. Dr Günter Deiler and Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Gerhard Feldmeier, from the chairman of the Friends' Association of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, Prof. Dr Ulrich Sander, and from Franjo Gießel, who congratulated his former fellow students in the name of the AStA (students' committee) and invited them to the next parties on the university campus. Prof Dr Dieter Heimann, Dean of Studies in Faculty 2, and Prof Dr Uwe Werner, Deputy Dean of Faculty 1, hosted the graduation ceremony.

Some of the graduates have already entered professional life; some have decided to continue their studies in order to obtain a Master's degree.

The application phase for the winter semester 2024/25 is currently underway at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. Prospective students have until 15 August to apply for open-admission degree programmes via the university's own application portal ecampus.hs-bremerhaven.de. Applications for the admission-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes in Digital Media Production, Physician Assistant and Social Work are only possible via the portal www.hochschulstart.de until 15 July.
