Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences mourns the loss of Henry Otten
"We are losing a friendly, humorous/sarcastic and valued colleague who we always enjoyed having in our midst"
It was with great dismay and sadness that the Rectorate and the faculty of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences received the news of the death of their former colleague Henry Otten. Mr Otten was employed for 34 years in various functions in the central areas of the university until he retired on 1 January this year. Henry Otten passed away on 21 April.
Henry Otten began working at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in 1990. He was instrumental in setting up the Central Computer Supply Unit (ZBRV), now the Computer Centre, and was primarily responsible for the central e-mail system. He supported the university staff in the use of computer systems.
Comprehensive and user-friendly administration of student data became Henry Otten's speciality: in 2018, he became project manager for the introduction of a campus management system in the Student Affairs department at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. Henry Otten was involved in the introduction of the university information system "HISinOne". This IT system supports all students throughout their entire degree programme - from application and admission to the administration of examination results and finally graduation. "Henry Otten has positively shaped our university with his open personality and has made a significant contribution to its further development through his work," said Prof Dr Miriam O'Shea, Vice President for Multi-Project Management and Process Organisation. "We have a lot to thank Henry Otten for and are devastated by his untimely death. Our thoughts are with his loved ones." Henry Otten will also be remembered by his colleagues in the Enrolment and Examination Office as a committed and always helpful and popular colleague: "We are losing a warm, humorous/sarcastic and valued colleague who we always enjoyed having in our midst."
