More successful than ever: student documentaries win at festivals
"Männer" and "3 Uhr 8° Ost" are now also available on YouTube
23 festivals, one award winner, four finalists, three honourable mentions: With their documentary films "Männer" and "3 Uhr 8° Ost", students from the Digital Media Production degree programme at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences impressed more international juries than ever before in the last festival season. "I congratulate our students on these great successes. Without their fantastic commitment, it would not have been possible to realise such major film productions as part of our media project. Even if the path to the finished films was not always easy, the many awards are a great reward for their hard work," says course director Prof. Dr Holger Rada Anyone who would like to see the student films for themselves can now watch them on YouTube.
The film "Men" shows how different the idea of masculinity can be. The students accompanied five young men who interpret their masculinity in very different ways. The film was shown at thirteen international festivals, including as a finalist at the Student Los Angeles Film Awards 2023. The cinema premiere in Bremerhaven attracted numerous film fans. The documentary can now be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Dqkrkrx83s.
What moves people at night and how does the night move the city of Bremerhaven? These are the central questions that the students dealt with for the documentary film "3 o'clock 8° East". Several camera teams followed people in Bremerhaven at night. The film focuses on people the students met on the street or at work at this time of night. The film was shown at ten international festivals last year. At the 2023 Bobritsa Film Festival in Ukraine, it won an award for best student film. In Bremerhaven, "3 Uhr 8° Ost" was shown publicly for the first time at CineMotion as part of the orientation week. It can be viewed digitally at https://youtu.be/3F0QXFFnZOE.
