"Perspective" is the word of the year for Kari Rohloff
Bremerhaven student has designed one of the best 29 posters in Germany
The 38th poster competition organised by the Deutsches Studierendenwerk was held under the motto "Out of crisis mode". Students from the fields of graphic design, visual communication or communication design can take part in the competition. It is financially supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the prizes have a total value of 10,000 euros. The Museum for Communication Berlin is a co-operation partner.
The students were asked to visualise their view of the crises facing our society. Whether climate change, the coronavirus pandemic, inflation, wars or the energy crisis - there was plenty of inspiration and material. Kari Rohloff's poster is rather simple. "Word of the Year 2023 'Crisis Mode' - Word of the Year 2024 'Perspective'" is written in white on a blue background. "The poster is in the style of the Tagesschau, as this is how the Word of the Year 2023 'Crisis Mode' was announced. The idea arose to use its font and colour to predict the word for this year. 'Perspective' describes both a positive outlook and a point of view. This draws attention to the need to adopt a perspective that enables us to move forward positively," says the Bremerhaven student. The poster was developed in the course "Fundamentals of Media Design" with Prof. Nicole Slink in the first semester of the degree programme. In the end, the poster was among the top 29 and was exhibited at the Museum of Communication in Berlin. "It was nice to see my own work on a larger scale and it was also cool to be able to see the other motifs of the winners," explains Kari Rohloff. The Studierendenwerk Bremen is now displaying the poster in the canteen in Bremerhaven.
The application phase for the 2024/25 winter semester at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is currently underway. Prospective students have until 15 July to apply for the degree programmes with restricted admissions, including Digital Media Production.
