CHE recognises positive development dynamics at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences

The Centre for Higher Education Development (CHE) has nominated Prof. Dr Dr.hc Alexis Papathanassis, Rector of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, as "University Manager of the Year 2024". This makes him one of the 10 per cent of more than 400 rectors and presidents who have a chance of winning this award. "I am very pleased about the surprising nomination and the fact that we have already successfully mastered the first selection step. The fact that the CHE has recognised our positive development in recent years based on a data analysis makes me very happy. However, the success and recognition belongs to all teaching staff and employees at the university. It was only through their commitment and outstanding achievements that it was possible to initiate the development processes that have already led to positive changes. Whatever the outcome of this nomination, I am deeply grateful to my colleagues and immensely proud of our university," says Rector Papathanassis. The winner of the award will be announced at the "ZEIT für Bildung" conference at the beginning of December.

It is based on a multi-stage selection process consisting of data analysis, a survey and an assessment by experts. From the more than 400 German universities, the twenty universities and universities of applied sciences that have achieved the greatest improvements across various areas in recent years are selected. In addition to performance in research and teaching, this year's evaluation focused on the areas of internationalisation, sustainability, quality and university profile. Only change processes that are demonstrably linked to the leadership performance of university management are included in the evaluation.
