Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and Philosophical Society invite you to a discussion evening

As part of a joint event to mark their anniversaries, the Philosophical Society of Bremerhaven and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences are hosting a discussion evening on the topic of ‘Responsible use of AI in medicine’. PD Dr Martin Hähnel from the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Bremen and Prof. Dr Klaus Eickel, medical informatician at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, will discuss how artificial intelligence can be used in medicine on Thursday, 18 September, from 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences (Building K, An der Karlstadt 8). The admission fee is €7. School pupils, students and members of the Bremerhaven Philosophical Society have free admission.

What are the possible applications for artificial intelligence in medicine when patient wishes, diagnostic certainty, medical responsibility, data protection and ethics are taken into account? Experts PD Dr Martin Hähnel and Prof. Dr Klaus Eickel will discuss these questions from the perspectives of their respective disciplines. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity to talk to the speakers and representatives of the Philosophical Society.

The discussion evening is a collaborative event held to mark the anniversaries.

In its 75th anniversary year in 2025, the Bremerhaven Philosophical Society is continuing its lecture series in the second half of the year under the umbrella theme of ‘Brain – Mind – Machine. Philosophy and Artificial Intelligence.’ With these contributions, it aims to critically reflect on the opportunities and dangers that artificial intelligence presents for humanity. Against the backdrop of impressive yet unsettling technological developments, questions arise ranging from ethical evaluation to the age-old philosophical question of what defines humans and what they actually are.
