"May every wind be favourable to you"

They have made it: 121 young people, 54 from Faculty 1 and 67 from Faculty 2, have successfully completed their studies at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences and can now use the academic title of "Bachelor" or "Master". In the presence of their deans, lecturers, fellow students and relatives, many of them celebrated their graduation and successfully passed examinations in a very special ceremony.

"Dear graduates," University Rector Prof. Dr Dr h.c. addressed them, "during the orientation week, I advised you to see your studies as a journey rather than a destination, to pack lightly and leave room for new experiences. Today I stand before you to congratulate you on a successful journey that is now coming to an end and to send you off on an equally maritime journey of life: Only this time you are no longer just travellers, but captains. Like a fleet of ships, you have travelled the waters of knowledge, hoisted your sails and used the winds of curiosity to discover new horizons." The university and the city of Bremerhaven have been your "home harbour": "Here you have strengthened your sails, expanded your knowledge and prepared yourself for the challenges that lie ahead. You have surfed the waves of learning and have grown stronger with every change of course. From now on, the newly graduated alumni would have to make decisions like captains on the high seas that would determine the course of their lives. They would have acquired and developed the tools in the form of their own values and an inner compass during their studies. "I also encourage you to act sustainably and protect the environment, just as we must protect the oceans," the Rector urged them on the occasion of the recent heatwave and the more frequent extreme weather events. "Be responsible seafarers who preserve our planet and leave a healthy environment for future generations!"
