Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences brings RAUM27 to the birthday stage
"We are always happy when concerts take place in our home town"
Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences: On 16 August, you will be playing open air on Bremerhaven's Theodor-Heuss-Platz to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences - the SAiL is also taking place at the same time and, in addition to many local fans, there will be thousands of visitors in the seaside city. What does it mean to you to give a concert in the heart of the city where it all began for you? What are you looking forward to the most?
RAUM27: Of course, we are always happy when concerts take place in our home town. We're also a little more excited than usual, because friends and family are there to see what we do when we're actually on the road every week and ‘never have time’ from their point of view. But it's also special that the SAiL is now taking place again after a long time and the last time it was held in 2015, you ‘felt’ like you were still a child.
We have the honour of experiencing you live as the highlight of our university anniversary year ... Are you students yourselves? Where and what do you study? And how do you juggle lectures, recordings and a good 70 gigs a year?
Tristan: Apart from music, we actually took different paths back then. I'm still studying, that's true, but in such a way that it doesn't affect the RAUM27 project. It probably quickly comes across as a kind of ‘high-performer attitude’, and I'm studying like everyone else and have three start-ups on the side. But please don't misunderstand what you often see on social media. I'm still studying and often use it for social media content, but I actually only manage one module per semester and I try to finish it in a relaxed manner - so that mum is proud! - which already adds up to a certain number of semesters. But of course that comes with the privilege that the music is going so well. I realise that this doesn't reflect the normality and reality of students and is anything but self-evident.
Mathis: I started an apprenticeship back then, and the corona years played into it in such a way that I was actually able to complete it. After a year and a half of part-time work - even back then because of the music - I gradually realised that the music demanded so much time that it was no longer realistic to juggle both, and that my body and mind would have to put up with it for a long time. Raum27 has been ensuring that we can make a living from it for over a year now. This is a great privilege, which we realise every day, and we are very grateful for it.
Wars, crises, climate collapse: the world has been coming apart at the seams recently: what subject do we all need, what subject does the world need to become a better place?
RAUM27: This is a very profound question and certainly cannot be answered with ‘the one subject’. Everything should be included, from political directions and human psychology to basic digital and ethical content. To name just one of countless building blocks, something like ‘media literacy’, especially at an early school age, seems to be more important than ever. You get the feeling that many topics and reasons for all these crises have long been known, but that social media in particular can act as a kind of accelerant. Facts, well-founded sources and scientific studies simply no longer count, but rather ‘one's own view and opinion’, which is merely fuelled by fake news and populism. We should be able to reflect on the fact that targeted algorithms ensure that people can consolidate their own apparent reality, with their very own narratives, ever further and very quickly, and that we really become trapped in our media bubble.
Unbelievable, but it's true: You jammed in the music room at your school in Bremerhaven - in room 27 - and started making music so that Tristan could get 15 points in his A-levels. A year later, a guerrilla concert at the Deichbrand Festival campsite really and truly brought you onto the Deichbrand stage. You've played at all the festivals, will be performing at the university birthday party in Bremerhaven on 16 August and will be playing here at the Apollo on 27 December ... Where do you prefer to perform - on the big festival stage or in the club and why?
RAUM27: We love playing both. At festivals you can reach new people and present a kind of application portfolio. After all, real concert experiences are still the most direct and best way to get to know and love a band. At your own shows, however, you also get all these great people in one place and simply have a really good time. We have one of our favourite communities at our own shows, which we are very proud of and which always comes back to us as very positive feedback. Because that's exactly what we always want to achieve. A safe space for all people, where for a few hours it's all about one thing - music!
The RAUM27 concert will take place on Saturday, 16 August 2025, from 8 pm, on Bremerhaven's Theodor-Heuss-Platz. Admission is free, but Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences asks for your donation - on site or at
