New seating reveals future utopias
Interactive installation invites you on a discovery tour into the year 2038
Climate neutrality by 2038 - that is the goal that the state of Bremen and its two cities on the Weser have set themselves. But what could life in a climate-neutral Bremerhaven look like? The interactive installation "Moin 2038", which was developed by the non-profit climate protection agency energiekonsens, provides some ideas. As announced by the building management team at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, "Moin 2038" is now on our campus following its summer visit to the Liebfrauenkirchhof in Bremen city centre in 2024 and a stopover on the Havenplaza in front of the Bremerhaven Klimahaus. The ‘Moin 2038’ installation invites interested parties to take a seat on integrated seating and listen to fictional stories from the year 2038 via loudspeakers - in both German and English. Three characters report on their everyday lives in a climate-friendly future for Bremerhaven. Their stories show how concrete climate protection measures - for example in the areas of mobility, energy, construction or consumption - can make a positive difference to everyday life. They make it clear that those who take action today are actively helping to shape the future. The stories encourage us to imagine what a climate-neutral Bremerhaven could look like and invite us to think about what each and every one of us can do to make this vision a reality.
Bremerhaven's university rector Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Alexis Papathanassis explains: "Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences sees itself as an active partner in the transformation process towards a climate-friendly urban society. The cooperation with energiekonsens helps to sensitise our students and the public to climate issues. The “Moin 2038” installation vividly demonstrates what a climate-neutral future can look like in concrete terms and in terms of quality of life."
The eye-catching, human-sized number ‘2038’ symbolises the climate target and the urgency to act. The placement of the installation on campus is a further step in the planned collaboration between the university and energiekonsens and builds on the existing joint use of the premises in the Klima Bau Zentrum on Theodor-Heuss-Platz.
Heinfried Becker, office manager of energiekonsens in Bremerhaven, says: "With “Moin 2038”, we are bringing climate protection directly to the people - in the centre of the city, on campus, in everyday places. The conversation about a climate-neutral future begins with ideas, images and stories. The proximity to the university creates a valuable connection to young people and innovative thinking, which we urgently need in the transformation."
