Bremerhaven logistics student receives scholarship from the Kieserling Foundation
Financial support ensures graduation
Financing their studies is a challenge for many students. Those who do not receive BAFöG (German student loan) have to work to cover their living expenses. This double burden can affect their performance. In the worst case, it can lead to them dropping out of university – sometimes even shortly before graduation. The Kieserling Foundation supports logistics students in Bremerhaven who are struggling with financial challenges in their studies. This year, Lev Litynskyi is receiving a scholarship. This will allow him to concentrate fully on his thesis in the coming months. ‘I would like to thank the Kieserling Foundation and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences for the scholarship,’ says the student.
Lev Litynskyi fled Ukraine for Germany immediately after the war began. There, he began studying transport/logistics (now: transport, economics, logistics) at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in 2022. At the same time, he completed the studies he had already begun at Mariupol State University via digital communication tools, graduating successfully in June 2024. ‘Thanks to his study experience in Ukraine, Mr Litynskyi was able to successfully complete all the required examinations in his first semesters with us. It was very clear that he knew exactly how to study in a well-founded and goal-oriented manner,’ says programme director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carsten Dorn.
The student is now about to start his bachelor's thesis, but has recently lost his financial support. His part-time job alone is not enough to finance his final semester and living expenses. Thanks to the Kieserling Foundation, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences can help its student complete his studies. "At this stage of his studies, it is important for him to focus fully on his thesis. Therefore, Mr Litynskyi should not have to work on the side. We are delighted to be able to support him with the scholarship," says Prof. Dorn. After graduating, the student would like to work in the logistics sector, where he is urgently needed as a skilled worker. Later, when the war is over, he would like to help rebuild his home country from Germany by helping to organise the logistical transport flows.
The Bremer Kieserling Foundation is committed to transport economics and logistics issues. The purpose of the foundation is to promote science and research, education and training, and youth welfare. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences has received funding to support students in need from the Bachelor's programme in Transport, Economics, Logistics and the Master's programme in Logistics Engineering and Management.
