Online vote and exhibition at the Historical Museum - 15 designs to choose from

Bremerhaven will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2027 and is already inviting all citizens to join in the celebrations. The search is on for the best logo for the event year. There are 15 designs to choose from. Votes can be cast online or during an exhibition at the Historical Museum.

“A diverse program of events is being prepared for the city's big anniversary, and it needs a strong visual symbol,” says Michael Gerber, managing director of Erlebnis Bremerhaven GmbH. The municipal tourism, marketing, and events company has been commissioned by the city council to prepare the birthday celebrations for 2027 with a project office. As part of a collaboration with Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, 15 logo designs for “200 Years of Bremerhaven” have been created, which interested parties can now vote on to help decide which logo will represent the anniversary year.

The wish: young ideas from Bremerhaven

“We are planning a year full of events, encounters, and shared memories,” says Lisa Reichelt from the “200 Years of Bremerhaven” project office.

A creative group of students from the Digital Media Production program at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences took on the first major task of developing a logo. Over the past few months, they worked with their professor, Nicole Slink, to develop ideas for a logo that would represent what Bremerhaven stands for, what makes the largest city on the North Sea special, and how this could be celebrated citywide. “We wanted young ideas from Bremerhaven,” says Gerber, “which is why we were happy to enter into cooperation with the university.”

For three months, the students immersed themselves in 200 years of city history. “It was a great task for the students and, at the same time, a big challenge to combine both the anniversary and the identity of Bremerhaven in a symbol that is as simple and recognizable as possible,” says Nicole Slink. According to the professor of communication design, each design expresses fresh ideas, different styles, and the special features of Bremerhaven.

Have your say now

Which logo for our city anniversary in 2027 do you like best?

The designs up for selection can be found on the website https://www.bremerhaven-erleben.de/stadtjubilaeum/umfrage-logo. Voting is very simple: select your favorites, click, and you're done! Voting will continue until February 26. The public vote will then be taken into account by a panel of experts when making their decision. The three designs that receive the most votes from the expert jury will be recommended to the board of trustees for the final decision.

Discover the logos on site

To accompany the online vote, the Historical Museum will be exhibiting the designs from Tuesday, February 17, to Sunday, March 8, presenting different versions, showing examples of how they can be used, and providing information about the background to the design ideas. “This will allow interested parties to experience the designs once again on site and discover the creative diversity of the university,” says Gerber. Admission to the exhibition is free!

Call for funding for further projects

The Bremerhaven city anniversary is intended to be a project by the residents for the residents. “Participation and co-determination are therefore very important to us,” explains Lisa Reichelt. The project ideas for 2027 range from events and campaigns to creative contributions. More than 100 suggestions have already been received. "Anyone who still has ideas for the anniversary year and would like financial support for their project should note two deadlines for submitting project applications: April 20 and September 1. The board of trustees will decide on the applications on June 1 and September 18,“ explains Benthe Stolz, who is head of the Cooperative City and Neighborhood Development department at Erlebnis Bremerhaven and also responsible for managing the project office. ”We at the project office are happy to provide information and assistance. We are already looking forward to a colorful anniversary year."
