First Science Day in Bremen
Hands-on research, interactive activities and exclusive live links to Antarctica
On 27 June 2026, Bremen city centre will become a meeting place for anyone wishing to experience science up close: the first “Science Day” will take place from 2 pm to 9 pm. Under the motto “Experience. Marvel. Understand.”, the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science, the House of Science and over 55 scientific institutions cordially invite all residents of Bremen and visitors to discover the fascinating world of research right in the heart of the city.
Science for everyone – right in the heart of Bremen
Science Day brings the diversity of science from Bremen and Bremerhaven straight to the heart of the city. Whether young or old, with or without prior knowledge – the varied programme offers something for everyone: interactive hands-on activities, exciting experiments, engaging talks and plenty of opportunities to get involved yourself.
The aim is to make science understandable and tangible, to strengthen the dialogue between research and society, and to show just how innovative and forward-looking Bremen is.
The events and activities take place at central locations: on the Domshof, on the stage of the Open Space Domshof, in the House of Science, and in the ticket hall of the Forum am Domshof. This makes science accessible to everyone – right in the heart of Bremen city centre.
Dr Henrike Müller, Senator for Science, emphasises the importance of Bremen as a centre of science: "Science is a key driver of innovation, progress and quality of life in Bremen and Bremerhaven. With Science Day, we want to show just how diverse, exciting and relevant research is to our daily lives – and how much joy and curiosity it can inspire. I warmly invite everyone in Bremen to come to the city centre on 27 June to experience science, be amazed, discover new things and gain a better understanding of the world.”
The programme was developed in collaboration with universities, research institutes, associations, museums and Open Space Domshof, and forms the highlight of the theme year “Phenomenal 2026 – Discover Bremen. Experience Knowledge." organised by WFB Wirtschaftsförderung Bremen GmbH. A total of 55 institutions are taking part with around 90 contributions. Visitors can look forward to exciting insights into current research topics – from artificial intelligence, climate research and space travel to health, digitalisation and future societal issues. With science slams, workshops and exciting activities for children and young people, visitors can get actively involved, try out new things and exchange ideas.

The Alfred Wegener Institute – Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) invites you to a live discussion with the overwintering team in Antarctica: visitors will have the unique opportunity to speak directly with the scientists on site via a moderated live video link. What is it like to spend the winter in Antarctica? What challenges and fascinating experiences does research on the other side of the world entail? Ask your questions live to the overwintering team at Neumayer Station III! Further information about the station is available at: onexpedition.awi.de/neumayer
Science Day is a new event format launched by the Senator for the Environment, Climate and Science in collaboration with WFB Wirtschaftsförderung GmbH Bremen and the House of Science. The aim is to forge closer links between science and urban society and to further enhance the visibility of Bremen and Bremerhaven as centres of science.
