The laboratory material science is part of the manufacturing and production technology course. It also covers the whole need for material sciences at the university.
Material science General information
Materials are analysed and tested in a total of eight laboratories using a wide range of technological processes.
Furthermore, students are taught the basics of materials technology and numerous projects and bachelor's/master's theses are carried out. In addition, it is available for materials science studies for craft and industrial companies in the region.
The materials science laboratories at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences are modern and comprehensively equipped.
For example, a scanning electron microscope, an X-ray diffractometer, hardness testers in various test ranges, tensile, compression and bending test benches, as well as other testing equipment are available for analysis.
In addition, there is the possibility of processing material in several furnaces, cutting and grinding machines and preparing it for the desired purpose.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bettina Camin has been head of the department since April 2022. She was previously a lecturer at TU Berlin and has now taken over as head of the Department of Metallurgy & Materials Science at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
