University Awards Kieserling Foundation Scholarships to Dedicated Students
Financial Support Ensures Academic Success
Financing one’s education is often a challenge. This is especially true for international students who are not eligible for financial aid and must learn the language in addition to mastering the coursework. The Kieserling Foundation supports logistics students at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences who face challenges in their studies due to financial constraints. Three scholarships were recently awarded. Iryna Gutsul, Quang Minh Nguyen, and Tran Pham received them from the program director, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carsten Dorn, in the presence of the Dean’s Office of Faculty 2 at the University of Applied Sciences Bremerhaven.
International students are highly sought-after young professionals in German companies after they graduate. In addition to their subject-specific knowledge, they possess linguistic and intercultural skills that are particularly valuable for the globally active logistics industry. At the same time, international students face significant challenges. They must find their way in a foreign country and learn the language without neglecting their academic performance. Added to this is the issue of financing their studies. Typically, parents cover living expenses and tuition fees. If their financial situation deteriorates—for example, due to war or illness—this jeopardizes the students’ academic success.
The Kieserling Foundation enables Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences to provide financial support to its logistics students in such cases. For the first time, three students are receiving scholarships. In the presence of Dean Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gerhard Feldmeiner and Prof. Dr. Dieter Heimann, Dean of Academic Affairs, Program Director Prof. Dr.-Ing. Carsten Dorn presented symbolic checks to scholarship recipients Iryna Gutsul, Quang Minh Nguyen, and Tran Pham.
Iryna Gutsul is from Ukraine. She had already taken German classes in school, which sparked her interest in the language and culture. The hands-on teaching methods at German universities and the good career prospects after graduation led her to come to Germany to study before the war broke out. Until now, she has financed her studies through a part-time job. Since she is now writing her thesis, this is no longer possible. The scholarship from the Kieserling Foundation enables Ms. Gutsul to focus on her studies and complete them in a timely manner.
Quang Minh Nguyen came to Germany from Vietnam. He is very interested in the fields of logistics, transportation, and international business. Therefore, after graduation, he would like to work for an international company in Bremen to help build supply chains to Vietnam. Since German is not his native language, he needs more time to work through the course material on his own. Thanks to the scholarship, he can cover his living expenses without a part-time job and thus focus on his studies.
Tran Pham is also from Vietnam. After earning her bachelor’s degree in English linguistics, she made a conscious decision to start fresh in the field of logistics. She finds the connection between technology, business, and organization particularly interesting, as well as the opportunity to design the flow of goods and information in an efficient and sustainable manner. In addition to financial support from her family, she plans to fund her studies with the help of a part-time job. The scholarship from the Kieserling Foundation provides her with additional support, ensuring that her studies do not suffer from the dual burden.
The Bremen-based Kieserling Foundation is committed to issues in transportation and logistics. The foundation’s purpose is to promote science and research, education and training, as well as youth welfare. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences has received funding to support students in need from the bachelor’s program in Transport, Business, and Logistics and the master’s program in Logistics Engineering and Management.
