Study programme

Engineering / Marine Engineering and Wind Energy (Meerestechnik und Windenergie) Bachelor of Engineering

Apply by August 15th 2025 for a start in the winter semester 2025/26.

ING-Specialization Marine Engineering and Wind Energy

The field of Marine Engineering and Wind Energy is an interdisciplinary field of study that focuses on the development, operation, and maintenance of technologies for the use and development of the oceans. Students acquire in-depth knowledge in the fields of engineering, natural sciences, and maritime technologies to develop innovative solutions to the challenges of the marine environment.

In our modern world, life without electricity is unimaginable. The ocean is a versatile energy source that should not be underestimated, as it contains immense power that must be harnessed. This is already being done in offshore wind farms and will soon also be used in wave and current power plants. The extreme environmental conditions of the open sea place high demands on technology and maintenance, as well as necessitate new and further developments.

Marine Engineering and Wind Energy play a crucial role in addressing global challenges such as climate change, the sustainable use of marine resources, and the development of new, environmentally friendly technologies.
Graduates of the program have a wide range of career opportunities in the maritime industry, offshore technology, marine research, and environmental engineering. This promises exciting career prospects and new research fields with innovative tasks, for which we will prepare you in the Marine Engineering and Wind Energy specialization. Leading research institutions such as the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES), and the Institute for Wind Energy (fk-wind:) participate in the program, ensuring practical relevance and the up-to-date nature of the teaching.

Why choose this programme

  • High practical relevance

Cooperation arrangements with research institutions ensure the high quality of the teaching and learning and provides early insights into practice in the field.
  • Excellent freedom of choice

In terms of subject and topic expertise, you put together your own course of studies according to your interests and preferences.
  • Early project studies

From the third semester onwards, you work consistently on your own projects. Here, too, you can choose between Marine Engineering and Wind Energy.

We want to make sustainable and clean use of the oceans

Activities, research and professional profile

As a graduate of Marine Engineering and Wind Energy exciting and diverse fields of employment involving the technological use of the sea are open to you. The wind energy sector enables you to work in the development, planning and operation of turbines and farms on land and at sea. A specialisation in the offshore sector opens up further exciting challenges for you. Marine Engineering prepare you for research and development as well as for industry. With your expert knowledge as an engineer of Marine Engineering and Wind Energy, you will be able to meet the special requirements of the areas of environmental monitoring, service and maintenance, and other services. After graduation, you will be qualified to enrol in a consecutive master's programme at a German university or abroad. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences offers the master's programmes Wind Energy Technology, Process Engineering and Energy Technology and Embedded Systems Design.
