The application process is basically analogous to a bachelor's application for a subject with no admission restrictions - if you apply directly via our ecampus portal . Your online application will also be checked by the relevant degree program committees and either approved or rejected. The result is displayed in the portal. The notification of admission will be made available for you to download in the portal. The rejection notice will be sent to you by post.

We are pleased that you are interested in studying at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. Applications for the winter semester must be submitted by 15 August and for the summer semester by 15 February each year. You can register directly at the university unless you have obtained your school leaving certificate or bachelor degree outside the EU - then you have to start your application via www.uni-assist.de.
Application
First an online application is sufficient. The following documents must be submitted at the latest when enrolling, i.e. after receiving the notification of admission:
- University entrance qualification or school leaving certificate (original officially certified copy, no copy of the certification)
- Personally signed curriculum vitae, photograph
- Copy of birth certificate or identity card/passport
- Proof of health insurance: Please contact your health insurance company. Your health insurance company will then send the required notification to us. Please quote our sender number H0000733 for this purpose. If you are privately insured, please contact any statutory health insurance company - they will then notify us of the existence of private insurance. Please quote our sender number H0000733 for this as well.
- Clearance certificate (when changing universities or resuming studies)
- Exmatriculation certificates from all previous universities (when changing universities or resuming studies) at the latest upon admission or enrollment.
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of German (applicants from abroad)
- Proof of sufficient knowledge of English (depending on the course)
- Residence permit (only for foreign applicants, at the latest upon enrollment)
- If necessary, other documents such as a letter of motivation, internship certificate (according to the applicable admission regulations)
If you wish to apply to one of our master's programmes and you have obtained an undergraduate degree from a university or college outside the European Union, you will have to follow a certain process which may require some patience on your side.
1. Study advisory service: Before starting your application process you may contact our study advisor, Ms. Natalie Stellmacher, to inquire whether your academic background qualifies for your chosen Master's programme.
2. UNI-ASSIST application: You are required to start the application process initially via Uni-Assist unless you already have a Test Report which includes information that you are eligible to apply for a Master's programme at a German university or university of applied sciences.
Applications for the winter semester must be submitted by 15 August and for the summer semester by 15 February each year. 3. UNI-ASSIST approved: If your application is approved by Uni-Assist, your documents will be forwarded automatically to us.
- Once your documents are forwarded to us, you will receive a confirmation by Uni-Assist.
Furthermore, you will also be contacted by the applicant management (Ms. Sonja Puncken-Kassen)
5. Admission offer or rejection: these will be issued continuously after the evaluation process has been completed and via e-mail.
- If admission is offered: further information on how to enroll is provided
- If admission is denied: you may be able to appeal that decision by forwarding proof of further
qualifications (such as proof of sufficient work experience in the required field...etc.)

- upon arrival all relevant documents including the visa have to be presented (may be individually determined - please contact your respective admission's officer in this regard)
- after documents have been submitted and completed, semester documents will be issued and either forwarded via postal service to your address in Germany or made ready for pick up at our info-point.

Foreign applicants
Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is a member university of UNI-ASSIST (work and service center for international student applications). Prospective students who obtained their higher education entrance qualification outside the European Union (EU) should therefore submit their application directly to UNI-ASSIST. After a successful examination, you will be forwarded to Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. The processing of the application by UNI-ASSIST is subject to a fee for the applicant. At the Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, courses are mainly taught in German. In order to successfully participate in the courses, you must have very good knowledge of German. You can provide proof of sufficient German language skills for study purposes by submitting proof of a German language test for university admission. You can enroll as a preparatory student at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences for the time you are learning German and thus get to know the university before you begin your studies. When you enroll at the university, you are a matriculated student. You will receive the semester documents, student ID, semester ticket and access to the university facilities and thus also have the opportunity to apply for a residence permit. To enroll in the preparatory course, proof of a binding registration for a German intensive course with at least 20 lessons per week during the semester must be submitted.
Please note that admission to the preparatory course is only possible if all the requirements for the desired course of study, apart from German language skills, are met.
After completing the preparatory studies, a new application for the desired course is required in order to be able to participate in the admissions process.
The Here Ahead program is aimed at international university applicants. The state universities in the state of Bremen offer special preparatory programs in cooperation. The :prime preparatory course is aimed at prospective students whose school-leaving certificate entitles them to attend a preparatory college (indirect university entrance qualification). In addition to language and extracurricular preparation, :prime students also receive subject preparation for the entrance exam. After successful completion, they can apply to a university in the state of Bremen.
