Have you always wanted to work in the medical field but weren’t quite sure which area suited you best? Perhaps the Physician Assistant degree programme is exactly what you’re looking for.

After finishing my A-levels in 2021, I spent some time doing two voluntary placements abroad and eventually returned to Germany, I wanted to deepen my medical knowledge even further.

It was incredibly important to me not just to be taught theoretical content, because I’m the sort of person who really only learns through practical experience. It took me a long time back then to find a degree programme that really appealed to me. Eventually, I came across the university in the small coastal town of Bremerhaven, which perfectly combines my interests. The varied mix of lectures, practical placements and our Skills Lab makes the course particularly exciting for me.

As I grew up in Hamburg, almost every new acquaintance asks me the same question: “Why are you moving from Hamburg to Bremerhaven?” To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations of the university town at first. However, Bremerhaven has surprised me in a positive way. I was welcomed by a great flat-share and the student community is really brilliant too.

What’s more, Bremerhaven feels like a mini version of Hamburg, with the Weser estuary instead of the Elbe and the ‘Alte Bürger’ instead of the Reeperbahn.

Sure, everything here is a bit smaller, but it’s also much more personal and friendly than in Hamburg. That’s really lovely, especially when you’re
settling into a new city and getting to know new people. I also love the fact that here, just like in Hamburg, everyone says ‘Moin’. And the best thing about our university location is that we’ve got the sea right on our doorstep.
