Jordan - Amman - German-Jordanian University

Application

The following documents are necessary when applying at the German-Jordanian University:

  5. Three passport fotos (need to be taken to Jordan)
  6. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Registration Week:  International students should already arrive for the registration week in order to enroll at the university and to register for the different courses. This week takes place at the end of September for the winter term and in February for the summer term.

Required Language Skills: The courses are mainly taught in English. Therefore, good English language skills of a B1-B2 level are required.

Winter term: Early October - Late January

Summer terms: Mid-February - Late June

 

Courses

In general, it is possible for international students to choose courses from all faculties and study programmes, both on Bachelor and on Master level. Please find an overview of the differen course offers here.
International students can choose courses with a total amount of 21 Jordanien Credit Hourse (ca. 7-8 courses) per semester.  One Jordanian Credit Hour usually corresponds to 1,5 ECTS at European universities. 


In addition to the courses mentioned above, the "School of Applied Humanities & Languages" offers three programmes which students can attend:

  • Arabic Language Course Program (ALC): This offer gives the possibility of only consolidating one's Arabic language knowledge (on an advanced level) during one semester. The programme is independent from the International Office of the German-Jordanian University and has his own rules, requirements and fees.   • Professional Diploma of Social Work/ Migration & Refugees: This programme is offered by the faculty in cooperation with the International Office and it has its own specific requirements and regulations.   • Master Program of Social Work/ Migration & Refugees: This programme is offered by the faculty in cooperation with the International Office and it has its own specific requirements and regulations. For international students the German-Jordanian University offers Arabic language courses on beginner and advanced level.

Grading: In each course, students can achieve a maximum of 100%, whereas it is necessary to achieve at least 50% in order to pass the course.
This results in the following grades:
84% - 100%: Excellent
76% - 73,9%: Very good
68% - 75,9%: Good
60% - 67,9%: Satisfactory

 

Further information

All lectures are taking place on the main camous which is located close to Madaba. Only architecture students study in Amman. 

Study Buddy: All international students are assigned to a buddy. This role is usually taken by Jordanian students. 

Visa: Students have the possibility to enter Jordan with a tourist visa. You can get such a 30-day visa directly at the airport for a fee of 40 Jordanian dinar (aaprox. 50 Euro). Exchange of money is also possible at the airport. Without problems, you can extend the 30-day visa for further three monhs. The Information sheet from the university on visa application gives more information on the procedure. In this context, please be aware that there might be different regulations for different nationalities. For further specific information on your case, please contact the Jordanian embassy in your home yountry.

Health insurance: The German-Jordanian University provides a health insurance for all international students which costs 50 Jordanian dinar (approx. 57 Euro) per semester. But this includes certain limitation in their benefits. Therefore, it is advisable to take out an additional travel health insurance which includes absolute benefits and thus covers all medical fields. 

Accomodation: The German-Jordanian University does not have dormitories for international students, but they are happy to help by finding an adequate accomodation. The average price for a single room in a shared appartment  is 250-300 Jordanian dinar, (approx. 285- 342 Euro). A double room costs around 250 Jordanian dinar (ca. 285 Euro). The price for small appartments in Amman are 450-600 Jordanian dinar (approx. 513-685 Euro) and they can be shared by two people.

Cost of living: In Jordan, one can expect the following expenses:
- Accomodation: 350 Jordanian dinar (approx. 400 Euro)
- Transport: 100 Jordanian dinar (approx. 115 Euro)
- Food: 200 Jordanian dinar (approx. 228 Euro)
- Extra expenses: 100 Jordanian dinar (approx. 115 Euro)

In order to simplify the making of contact between new students and in order to exchange experiences and tips, a corresponding Facebook page has been created.

A pick-up service from the airport is not offered by the German-Jordanian University. Alternatively, one can safely use one of the airport taxis which costs around 25 Jordanian dinar (approx. 28 Euro).
