Our strategic course

The 3-R strategy of the Rectorate

When it took office in February 2021, the Rectorate adopted a strategy, the implementation of which is being systematically pursued together with the university's employees.
 

Digitization

Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences relies on the demand for and promotion of IT use to achieve the goals of securing and expanding its competitive position and operational capability and, on the cost side, increasing economic efficiency. The IT penetration of the university structures will be increased in an appropriate, ecological and security-oriented manner and its performance and reliability will be carefully monitored and ensured. At the same time, the skills of employees will be expanded. Users are the focus of both efforts.

Sustainability

A sustainability commission is currently working on the university's sustainability strategy. All status groups are represented on the commission.

Internationalization

Research

Alongside teaching, research is an integral part of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. In its four research clusters, the university works on a wide range of topics that are geared towards the social challenges of our time.

Target agreements

Every three years, the university and the responsible authority in Bremen reach target and performance agreements with each other.

Strengthening the Future Contract for Studies and Teaching (ZuSL)

With the Pact for the Future as the successor to the Higher Education Pact 2020, the federal and state governments are jointly improving the quality of studying and teaching at universities - across the board and permanently. The details are set out in the implementation agreement between the responsible authority and Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

  • 2024: “University with strong gender equality” award

    The Joint Science Conference awards Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences a distinction for its gender equality concept in the Female Professors Program 2030.
  • 2024: “Shaping diversity” award from the Donors' Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany

    Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences has been awarded the “Shaping Diversity” certificate by the Stifterverband für die deutsche Wissenschaft. This certifies that it sees the diversity of its students and employees as an opportunity and has found ways to use this potential for organizational development.
  • 2023: Red Dot Communication Award

    The new brand identity of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences receives one of the world's most important design awards.
  • 2023: Corporate Design Preis

    The brand design of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is awarded the Corporate Design Prize in the “Corporate Design Redesign” category.
  • 2023: “Bicycle-friendly employer” seal

    The university is the first employer in Bremerhaven to receive the silver “Bicycle-friendly employer” certificate from the German Cyclists' Federation (ADFC).

Excellent teaching

  • CHE: Computer Science among the top performers

    2024 DIE ZEIT and the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE) give top marks to the Bachelor's degree course in Computer Science at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences: The quality of the introductory phase at the start of the course is ranked in the top group of more than 300 universities in Germany.
  • Master's students win “Trophelia”

    Food Technology 2024 students have been recognized for their innovative breakfast cookie “OPOKE”. They will represent Germany at the European “Ecotrophelia” competition in Paris.
  • Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences invests science prize in German-Japanese conference

    In 2022, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences will receive the Science Prize of the Friends of Science in Bremerhaven. The prize money of 15,000 euros will support the organization of the conference “Offshore Wind Energy and Hydrogen - Outcomes and Perspectives for the further Energy Policy in Japan and Germany”.
  • Logistics degree program among the top 4

    In 2020, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences once again made it into the top 4 German logistics universities. Every year, the Munich weekly magazine VerkehrsRundschau presents the award on the basis of a student competition.
  • 1st place in the Bremen University Prize

    In 2020, the working group led by Prof. Dr. Dr. Michael Vogel was awarded first place in the Bremen University Prize with its competition entry “Foundation, Innovation, Leadership” (now available in Bremerhaven).

Our excellent lecturers The “Teaching Award” is presented every year

Excellent teaching is an essential prerequisite for successful studies and a key factor for the professional development of students. For this reason, the Verein zur Förderung der Hochschule Bremerhaven e.V. has donated prize money for the “Teaching Award”, with which Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences has honored special achievements by teachers once a year since 2008.
The prize, which is endowed with 1,000 euros, is aimed at professors and teaching staff for special tasks at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences who are characterized by particularly good and innovative teaching concepts and offer students comprehensive support. The money is intended to enable the winners to further develop their excellent teaching and implement new ideas.
Teachers can be recommended by students and other university lecturers. The decision is then made by a jury consisting of two vice-rectors, the deans of studies, one person from the support association and two students. The selection process is accompanied by university didactics
