High level of satisfaction with dual degree programme in business administration with integrated practice

Training and retaining specialists and managers for the regional economy - that is the aim of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. In order to qualify its students even better for higher positions and to offer them even greater practical relevance, it has set up two practice-integrated dual study programmes. Seier Holding GmbH & Co. KG was the first company to decide in favour of a cooperation with the university in the business administration degree course (practice-integrated dual). Now Seier Holding GmbH & Co. KG has now successfully filled a position for students for the second time for the summer semester 2024. "We are very satisfied with the collaboration and are happy to continue the cooperation. This year, we have also been able to successfully fill a position for the practice-integrated degree programme," says HR Officer Anna Scherf.

In times of a shortage of skilled labour, the search for suitable employees is a challenge for many companies. "With our degree programmes, we want to help ensure that well-trained specialists remain in the region and drive progress in companies. The dual degree programme in business administration with integrated practical training supports our cooperation partners in optimally preparing their employees for their future tasks and retaining them in the company. I am delighted that we were able to convince Seier Holding GmbH & Co. KG with our degree programme and that we will be able to consolidate the cooperation in the coming winter semester," emphasises course director Prof. Dr Birte Kemmerling.

Seier Holding GmbH & Co. KG has also invested a lot of time and money over the years to find qualified personnel. As a partner company of the university, it now trains them itself. "During their practical phases in the lecture-free period, the students spend time in various departments, such as HR management, HR services, marketing and process management. Towards the end, they specialise in an area in which they then write their Bachelor's thesis," explains Anna Scherf. They not only work at the holding company, but also at the Group's subsidiaries such as Datacon GmbH & Co. KG, Tief- und Rohrleitungsbau Wilhelm Wähler GmbH & Co. KG or Cuxland Ferienparks GmbH.

The practical phases in the company alternate with periods of attendance in the lecture theatres and laboratories at the university. In this way, students acquire the same specialist knowledge as their fellow students on traditional Bachelor's degree programmes, but apply it directly in the company. Ideally, they take on their first projects, acquire important leadership skills and qualify for higher positions during their studies. "We utilise the practical semester by assigning larger projects to our students. For example, during the assignment in the Human Resources Management team, we organise a team-building event for trainees and dual students or provide process support for the introduction of new systems in the Process Management team," explains Anna Scherf.

Prospective students have until 15 August to apply for the Business Administration degree programme (practice-integrated dual) and other admission-free degree programmes via the university's own application portal ecampus.hs-bremerhaven.de. Applications for the admission-restricted Bachelor's degree programmes in Digital Media Production, Physician Assistant and Social Work can only be submitted via the portal www.hochschulstart.de by 15 July.

Companies interested in the dual study programme and cooperation with the university can take part in a digital information event on the programme. This will take place on 8 August from 11 a.m. to 12 noon via BigBlueButton. You can register at bwldual@hs-bremerhaven.de.
