29 students at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences receive Deutschlandstipendium scholarship
Recognising achievement and commitment
29 students at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences have been honoured with the Deutschlandstipendium scholarship at a scholarship award ceremony. In addition to a monthly grant of 300 euros, half of which is financed by the federal government and half by the donors, the scholarship holders also receive non-material support, for example in matters relating to their professional future.
In his speech at the start of the event, Prof Dr Patrick Frohberg, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Services and Chairman of the Selection Committee for the Deutschlandstipendium, thanked the donors for their support. Only through their commitment is it possible to honour talented and high-achieving students with the Deutschlandstipendium. He congratulated the scholarship holders and appealed to them to continue to demonstrate excellent academic performance and to volunteer their time: ‘Both in our region and throughout Germany and beyond, we need knowledgeable and committed people like you in order to master the major challenges ahead.’
The Deutschlandstipendium scholarship is initially valid for one year. An annual extension until the end of the standard period of study is possible, provided that criteria such as very good academic performance and voluntary work are met. This year, 16 students successfully applied for an extension and 13 students were newly selected from 90 applicants who made it through to the final selection process.
15 sponsors from Bremerhaven, Bremen, Geestland and the surrounding area make it possible to support the scholarship holders. In addition to financial support, the students also benefit from the moral support of their sponsors. For example, by providing advice for their professional future or, in some cases, for the opportunity to complete internships or write theses, etc. For the new scholarship holders in the group, it was the first time that they had met their sponsors in person.
The donors, scholarship holders and members of the university got to talk to each other over a meal after the award ceremony. ‘I am delighted to see how lively everyone's conversations are and how new contacts are made. We can say with conviction that we form a great community, which is not least thanks to the long-standing support of our donors and the commitment of the scholarship holders,’ says Marnie Stockfisch, coordinator of the Deutschlandstipendium at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.
