New name and new focus for Bremerhaven Computer Science Master's programme

Studies

‘Computer Science - Trustworthy Systems’ degree programme starts in the summer semester

Anyone interested in IT security will be able to obtain a Master's degree in this subject area at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences in the future. From the summer semester of 2025, the degree programme ‘Computer Science - Trustworthy Systems’ (IVS) will be accepting students. It will replace the previous computer science master's degree in ‘Digitalisation, Innovation and Information Management’ (DIIM). Further information can be found at www.hs-bremerhaven.de/ComputerScience-TrustworthySystems.

The lecturers of the computer science degree programmes in Bremerhaven have used the reaccreditation of the DIIM degree programme to make changes to the previous curriculum. This also resulted in the new name. ‘Computer Science - Trustworthy Systems’ focuses more clearly on a computer science specialisation in digitalisation. Knowledge of computer science or business informatics is therefore a prerequisite for admission. Building on this, lecturers and students work together to implement concepts for security and reliability in software systems. Two Master's projects, which are usually carried out in cooperation with a company, public administration organisations or non-profit organisations, are the linchpin of the Master's course.

‘The special feature of this degree programme is its focus on the design of measures to implement the trustworthiness of software systems. Their importance in the social discussion has an influence on the improvement of security and reliability. At the same time, the transparency of the implemented concepts will have an influence on the social debate. To this end, the two Master's projects in particular offer students time and space to work out the mutual influence and to design and implement innovative solutions. This is accompanied by impulses from current research topics on questions of trustworthiness of systems,’ says Prof Dr Karin Vosseberg, Professor of Computer Science and Business Informatics at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences.

With the new curriculum, Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences is responding to the needs of companies. In addition to the requirements of ecological, economic and social sustainability, the trustworthiness of software systems is becoming increasingly important due to increasing digitalisation. ‘The labour market for experts in the design of trustworthy software systems is broadly diversified - from consulting and strategy development to implementation projects. The employability of our students is reflected in the attractiveness of the course content for companies and organisations. Our students are already being courted by companies during their studies,’ says Prof Vosseberg.
