Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences celebrates its anniversary during SAiL

A 50th birthday is always a reason to celebrate. That's why Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences invited guests to a big party to mark its anniversary year. The music programme got visitors in the party mood from the afternoon onwards. The samba drum group ‘SchlickSticks’ and regional DJs got the crowd in the mood for the performance by the band RAUM27. Several thousand visitors gathered at Theodor-Heuss-Platz to see the Bremen musicians, who met during their school days in Bremerhaven. The first fans secured the best spots in front of the stage early in the morning.

The anniversary party was the grand finale of three varied days of events during SAiL 2025. On Thursday, the university invited visitors to ‘City Campus meets SAiL’ for open-air lectures and campus tours. This was a great opportunity to get to know the ‘university by the sea’ better, and not just for prospective students.

In keeping with Friday's sailors' parade, international students brought the culture of their home countries to Bremerhaven at ‘Hochschule international – celebrating diverse cultures’. They engaged in conversation with interested visitors over traditional food, music, dances and games. The event was organised by students with the support of Gudrun Zimmermann, head of the Centre for Equal Opportunities and Diversity.

Vintage clothing, snacks and start-up assistance

When small businesses join forces, they can not only shine with a product range that can compete with many supermarkets, but also with innovative ideas that are not yet available in brick-and-mortar retail. Students from the Start-up, Innovation, Leadership (GIF) programme have now given them a stage. Where a well-known decorative items shop had to close its doors some time ago, they opened a pop-up store for the regional start-up scene for a week. Numerous people who came to ‘watch the ships’ during SAiL 2025 were drawn to the colourfully designed shop on their way to the Havenwelten. It will remain open until Sunday, 17 August.
