Tuition fees and study accounts

The Federal State of Bremen does not charge tuition fees. Only if you exceed 15 semesters of studying you will be charged a 500 Euro fee per semester.

Once you start studying in Germany for the first time you will be granted a so-called study account which allows students to study 14 semesters without paying tuition. Enroled students will be informed about the status of their accounts. Under certain circumstances tuition-free semesters can be extended beyond 14 semesters. However, if you have already used all 14 semesters without graduating you will be required to pay a fee of 500 Euros for each additional semester. The law provides several exemptions to this obligation. Tuition is not included in the regular semester fee and thus has to be paid separately.
