Food technologist

Every day we consume food and trust in its quality and safety. In order to ensure the population is adequately supplied with high-quality, safe and long-lasting food, detailed knowledge of technological processes and sound business management skills are necessary. The bachelor's programme in Food Technology/Food Economics (Lebensmitteltechnology/Lebensmittelwirtschaft) combines both. In addition to the classical engineering focus of food technology, a second focus offers a combination of engineering and business studies.

The food industry as a whole represents one of the largest economic sectors in Germany. The industry is diverse and dominated by medium-sized companies. Your career prospects are excellent: food technologists and food economists have been in constant demand on the labour market for years! Thanks to the diverse, practice-based range of subjects and the specialisation in one core field of study, you can qualify to enter a career that fits your own personal interests. The areas of employment are as broad as the food industry itself, whether in agriculture and the animal feed industry, in the food processing industry or in food retailing, at food testing institutions, plant manufacturers or marketing organisations, associations, and national and international political institutions, or even in related sectors such as biotechnology or the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industry. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences offers you a practice-based degree programme and has many years of close cooperation with regional and national companies, and with the ttz (Bremerhaven Technology Transfer Centre).

Students decide on one of the two focus areas prior to the third semester: food technology or food economics.
