Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences welcomes  161 new Bachelor's and Master's students

Welcome on board: Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences celebrated the start of the 2024 summer semester together with its newly enrolled students. "Stay motivated, take responsibility, contribute to the community and you will be successful. We are really looking forward to having you with us in the coming years. Let's make your time at university an epic experience," said Rector Prof. Dr Dr Alexis Papathanassis in his welcoming speech.

The most important information has been compiled at orientierung.hs-bremerhaven.de to ensure a smooth start to the degree programme. Students can find links to timetables, service centres and the Elli learning platform as well as informative video tutorials. Support is also provided by various student initiatives, which introduced themselves at the welcome event.

The General Students' Committee (AStA) spoke about the tasks of its cultural officer Jule Petersen. The AStA is there to help all students with questions and problems. The student representatives also regularly organise events, such as the traditional Kutterpullen. Interested parties receive important news via the Instagram channel @astabhv.

Laura Schröder from the "StudiTalk" project and Michaela Kleih from the LGTBQ+ group presented offers from students for students. StudiTalk helps students to network with each other. Various groups have been set up for this purpose, for example on the topics of mental health, studying with disabilities or language tandems. The LGTBQ+ group offers a "safe space" for queer students and regularly organises events such as the queer regulars' table.

Ulrich Kameni Ngango Veigne and Lea Kristin Kuhlmann welcomed the first-semester students on behalf of the Local Erasmus Initiative (LEI). This initiative supports students from abroad with everyday questions and organises events where they can exchange ideas with each other and with their German fellow students.

Daniel Lorenz presented a special programme for football-loving students: the international football club. Anyone can take part, regardless of their own playing experience or talent. "It doesn't matter whether you're the new Lionel Messi or have never played before. A love of football is enough," says the student. No-one had to worry about possible language barriers either.

Ulf Abbes, board member of the Association for the Promotion of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, and Aleksandra Rupietta, Head of the International Office, also gave welcoming speeches.

Applicant manager Sonja Puncken-Kassen moderated the English-language welcome event. Afterwards, the students took the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the university and make initial contacts during guided campus tours and an evening event. The event was organised by the University Communication Department.

As of 2 April 2024, 161 students have enrolled for the summer semester at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. This represents a slight increase in enrolments compared to the previous year. The international Master's degree programmes Embedded Systems Design (ESD) and Process Engineering and Energy Technology (PEET) are once again in particularly high demand this year.
