Will AI take over the quality assurance of software tests?
AI and agile practices are the focus of the survey
The fourth anonymous online survey on the status of software testing and quality assurance in practice and research in German-speaking countries will run until 30 September 2024 at www.software-umfrage.de. Karin Vosseberg, who heads the Computer Science and Business Informatics degree programmes at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, and colleagues from the Technical Universities and Aschaffenburg as well as the German and Austrian Testing Boards want to use the survey results to gain a comprehensive, up-to-date picture. "I am curious to see how the future of software development is viewed and to what extent artificial intelligence will take over the tasks of quality assurance," explains Karin Vosseberg. AI could, for example, support testers at various levels - from requirements generation to test case creation.
Anonymous participation possible until 30 September 2024
The results will be published at www.software-umfrage.de in December 2024. In addition to AI, this time the survey will focus on agile practices in software testing. According to the researchers, the aim is to gain impetus for the practice- and research-oriented orientation of education, training and qualification. They also want to use the results to provide companies with the basis for benchmarking.
Karin Vosseberg and her colleagues have been surveying software testers since 2011 and providing them with different questionnaires depending on their role in practice, research or management. "It will be exciting to see which trends continue from the almost 15 years of the survey and which topics no longer play a role," says Karin Vosseberg. In the vodcast "Software Test Survey 2024 - Karin Vosseberg" linked below this text, she summarises the results of the long-term study and presents the current survey in detail.
