"Unacceptable and embarrassing"

University

Our student reflects exactly the 'heart' of our country.

"First and foremost, my solidarity, personally and on behalf of our university, goes to the victim. Our student, who was insulted and verbally attacked while actively standing up for our democratic and social values, reflects exactly the 'heart' of our country. She deserves nothing but recognition and appreciation for her commitment, behaviour and participation. Accordingly, the reported racist behaviour is not only unacceptable and shameful, but also absurd. The temptation to believe that this is an unfortunate isolated incident should not lead us to disregard the underlying attitude and mindset."
Prof. Dr Dr h.c. Alexis Papathanassis strongly condemns the racially motivated attack on a student at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. The woman had been working as a poll worker at a Bremerhaven polling station during the European elections on 9 June. There she was verbally attacked and racially insulted by a man. The Nordsee-Zeitung reported on the incident on 12 June.
