Can You Play the Future?
Insights into Game-Based Learning on Thursday, May 28
How can games be used for learning? Students at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences have been exploring this question. At the event “Can You Play the Future?” on Thursday, May 28, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the university’s event room (Building T, Room 002, An der Karlstadt 8), they and their instructor Karen Albers will showcase the escape games they developed themselves. Participants are encouraged to join in and try them out. In addition, participants can expect keynote presentations and booths from companies and organizations. Participation is free of charge upon prior registration. For more information, visit www.hs-bremerhaven.de/zukunft-spielen.
As part of the BBNEscape course module at Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences, students spent three semesters developing their own educational escape games that bring topics in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) to life through game-based learning approaches. In doing so, they went through the entire development process—from research and conceptualization to the practical implementation of the games. As the culmination and highlight of the student projects, the results will not only be exhibited for interested visitors but will also invite them to play along. The students will be on hand to guide visitors through their games, explain their concepts, and provide insights into their ideas, learning processes, and challenges.
Complementing the exhibition, there will be short keynote talks by experts from academia and the professional field, offering insights into current developments in game-based learning, innovative learning formats, and education for sustainable development. In addition, companies and organizations from the region will present their sustainable projects, innovations, and initiatives at their own booths.
